PRIVACY POLICY

Gourmetmiles Inc.

Effective October 11, 2026

Last updated October 27, 2026

Replaces the Privacy Policy last updated October 5, 2026

1. WHO WE ARE

This policy explains how Gourmetmiles Inc. ("Gourmetmiles," "we," "us"), based in Austin, Texas, handles personal information in the Gourmetmiles app, in the Macroscale's connection to the app, on our website, and in our customer support.

Questions about this policy: support@gourmetmiles.com.

In short: we collect what the app needs to track your food and run your account. We do not sell your information, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not give it to data brokers.

2. WHAT WE COLLECT

Account information

Your email address, your name, and your password. Passwords are stored only as a one-way hash, which means we cannot read them. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the account identifier and email address they give us. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we receive only the private relay address.

Profile information you give us during setup

  • Your first name, and your last name if you choose to give it
  • A profile photo, if you add one
  • Your sex and date of birth, which set your recommended nutrient ranges
  • Your measurement units
  • Whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and the stage, if you tell us
  • Your activity level
  • Your food allergies
  • Ingredients you want the app to warn you about
  • Foods you prefer to avoid, including for religious or personal reasons
  • Any diet groups you choose, such as Keto, Diabetes or Halal. Some say something about your health and some about your religion; see section 3

What you log

Meals, foods, recipes, portions, water, favorites, and your nutrient goals.

Macroscale

Weight readings sent from your scale, your scale's Bluetooth name, and the dates you first paired it and last used it, so we know which scale belongs to your account.

Help questions

What you type into the Help screen. See section 5.

Support messages

What you send us through the app or by email.

Device and diagnostic information

App version, phone model, operating system version, crash reports, and technical logs from our servers such as IP address and request times.

App usage

We do not measure how you use the app. Older versions of the iPhone app (4.5 and earlier) and of the Android app (2.12.0 and earlier) measured basic usage through Google Firebase Analytics; current versions do not. We still receive crash reports.

On Android, the Google software that reads barcodes and labels works on your phone, and sends Google its own technical information — your phone's maker, model and operating system version, and how that software is performing. We never receive it, and it does not include anything you have logged.

Reminders

If we ask you something in the app — such as whether you would review the Macroscale — we record your answer and when we asked, so we do not ask again after you have said not to.

Camera and Bluetooth

The app uses Bluetooth to connect to the Macroscale, and the camera to scan barcodes and ingredient labels and, if you choose, to take a profile photo. A profile photo you add is uploaded to our servers. So is a photo you add to a food you edit or create. The AI SmartScan photo is described below. No other camera images are sent to us.

My Health entries

What you record in My Health saves to your Gourmetmiles account as well as your phone, so it survives a reinstall or a new phone. That covers water, weight and weight goals, body measurements, health readings you enter (blood pressure, blood glucose and its timing, cholesterol, sleep), medications you list and the doses you mark as taken, how you say you felt each week, exercise you type in, and your fasting plan and history.

We treat all of this as health information. See section 3.

Connected devices

If you connect a device or service — Oura or Withings — we read the readings you authorize and show them in My Health. We only read; we never write anything back, and we never send this information to any other company or to any AI.

We do not store these readings. They are fetched when you open My Health and are not saved to your account. You can disconnect at any time on the Connect another platform screen, and disconnecting stops any further reading.

Voice logging

If you tap the microphone in any search box or ask box in the app, the app asks for permission to use your microphone and speech recognition. On iPhone, Apple's speech recognition turns what you say into text; on Android, your phone's speech recognition service (usually Google's) does. It runs on the phone where it can, and otherwise on its maker's servers. We never receive or keep the recording. The text is only placed in the box, as if you had typed it. In a search box, it is used to search. Text you speak into Coach or Help is sent only when you tap Ask, as described in sections 5 and 6.

AI SmartScan

If you use AI SmartScan, the app opens your camera and takes one photo when it sees food. Your phone decides when to take it. Nothing else from your camera is sent, and the app does not read your photo library.

That one photo goes to our server, and from there to Google, whose AI names what is in it and sends back up to five suggestions. You pick the right one. Nutrition figures never come from Google — they come from the USDA food database, the same as a normal search.

We do not store the photo and we do not log it. For each scan our server keeps one line: your user ID, the foods the AI suggested, how many suggestions came back, how long it took, and whether it worked. We also count your scans so we can apply a daily limit, and that count clears itself each day.

Google handles the photo under its paid API terms. Google does not use it to improve its products or to train its models. Google keeps prompts and responses for a limited period, only to detect misuse of its service and to meet legal requirements, and then deletes them.

Please point the camera at the food, and not at anything you would rather not send to Google.

Location

If you open Nearby Restaurants and allow it, the app sends your approximate location to our server to find restaurants near you. The same applies if you turn on "Include Meals from Restaurants" for Fill My Week, or allow it when you ask Coach what to eat next: the app then also sends the distance you chose in Settings, and our server uses your location once to find restaurant meals within that distance. The position is rounded before it leaves your phone, to about one kilometer — roughly half a mile. We use it only for that search and do not store it. It is never sent to Anthropic or any other company. The app asks for location only while you are using it, and only when you use one of these features.

We do not collect your contacts or payment card details.

3. HEALTH INFORMATION

We treat your food logs, nutrient goals, allergies, dietary restrictions, diet groups, My Health entries, and any pregnancy or breastfeeding details you enter as health information.

Some diet groups say something about your religion rather than your health. We treat those with the same care.

We use it only to provide the features you use: tracking, nutrient ranges and goals, allergen and ingredient alerts, My Health, Coach if you allow it (section 6), My Community if you use it (section 7), and Apple Health or Health Connect if you turn it on.

We never sell it, and we never use it for advertising.

If you live in Washington or Nevada, our Consumer Health Data Privacy Notice describes this information and your rights over it in more detail. It is available on our website at gourmetmiles.com/consumer-health-data-notice, linked from our home page.

4. HOW WE USE INFORMATION

  • To create and run your account
  • To record, calculate and display your nutrition
  • To connect to your Macroscale
  • To know which Macroscale belongs to your account, and to help you with questions about it
  • To answer your Coach questions, if you allow it
  • To run My Community, including checking posts against our rules and handling reports
  • To show readings from devices you connect, and to keep your My Health entries in your account so they survive a reinstall or a new phone
  • To suggest better-rated products after you scan a barcode
  • To show you restaurants near you, if you use Nearby Restaurants
  • To answer your Help questions and support messages
  • To send notifications you have turned on
  • To find and fix problems
  • To keep the Services and accounts secure and prevent misuse
  • To meet our legal obligations

5. HELP ANSWERS WRITTEN BY AI

The Help screen ("How to use this app") uses artificial intelligence to answer your questions. It works only after you choose Allow on the Help screen.

What your phone sends to us. Your question, your first name if you are signed in, your Gourmetmiles user ID if you are signed in or a random ID for your device if you are not, the app version, your phone model, and your operating system version.

What we send to Anthropic. Our server sends your question and your first name to Anthropic, PBC, the company that provides the AI model that writes the answer. Your account ID and your device details stay with us and are used for daily limits and cost control.

What Anthropic does with it. Anthropic uses this information only to produce the answer for us. Under Anthropic's commercial terms it does not use it to train its models, and it deletes it within 30 days, unless it needs to keep it longer to investigate misuse of its own service.

What we keep. Your Help questions and the answers, and anything you send with "Report this answer," are stored in your account until you delete your account. For each question our server also keeps a short usage record: the time, your user or device ID, which AI model answered, the size and cost of the request, and a few yes-or-no markers. When you use AI SmartScan we keep the list of foods it found. We never keep the photo.

No conversation history. Each question is answered on its own; your earlier questions are not sent with a new one.

Please keep in mind. AI answers can be wrong, and they are not medical, nutrition or allergy advice. Please do not include health details or other personal information in a question unless you are comfortable with it being sent to Anthropic.

If you choose "Send to the Gourmetmiles team," or "Report this answer." We email your message to support@gourmetmiles.com, together with the type of message you chose, your original question, the reply email address if you give one, the app version, your phone model, your operating system version, your user ID, and the name of your paired Macroscale. This goes to our team, not to the AI. We keep support emails for up to 24 months, or longer if we need them to resolve an issue.

6. COACH

Coach answers questions about your own diet, water and nutrient goals, and can suggest a week of meals for you. It works only after you tap Allow on the Coach screen. If what Coach sends ever changes, we ask you again before the change takes effect.

What we send. When you ask Coach a question, or ask it to fill your week, our server sends your question to Anthropic, PBC, the company that provides the AI, along with your first name; your diet records and water entries from the last seven days; your daily totals — calories and nutrients, not the individual foods — for the last thirty days; your nutrient goals and your water goal; your allergies, the ingredients you want flagged and the foods you avoid; your diet groups; whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding and the stage, if you have told us; your age range, sex, activity level and latest weight; and your measurement units and time zone. We send an age range, not your date of birth. Some of this is health information, including whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding — Diabetes, Pregnancy and Kidney disease are diet groups, and your weight and your goals are health information too. We send them so Coach's answers are safe for you rather than generic.

Only what the app recorded. The weight we send is the one recorded in the Gourmetmiles app. We never send a weight that came from Apple Health, Health Connect, Oura or Withings — those stay where sections 2 and 10 say they stay.

Restaurant meals. If you include restaurant meals, we also send a short list of menu items from restaurants near you — the dish names, the restaurant names and their nutrition — so Coach can choose among them. We do not send your location or how far away the restaurants are. Meals you logged from a restaurant may carry the restaurant's name in your diet records.

What we do not send. No photos. No blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol or sleep. No medications. No body measurements — waist, hips, chest, arm or thigh. No exercise you logged and no fasting history. Nothing from Apple Health, Health Connect or a connected device. No individual meals older than seven days, and nothing at all older than thirty days.

What Anthropic does with it. Anthropic uses it only to write your answer. Under its commercial terms it does not use it to train its models and deletes it within 30 days, unless it needs to keep it longer to investigate misuse of its own service.

What we keep. Your questions and Coach's answers are stored in your account until you delete your account. When Coach suggests a restaurant meal, we keep the suggestion with your answer, but not your location or the distance. You can ask up to 20 questions a day.

Turning it off. Settings has "Stop Coach from Reading My Diet Records." Turn it off and nothing further is sent. Coach answers can be wrong and are not medical advice — talk to a doctor or dietitian before changing your diet for a health reason.

7. MY COMMUNITY

My Community lets you post to groups based on your diet groups, and to friends you invite. It is for people 18 and over.

What others see. Your posts and replies, with your first name and your profile photo. Nothing else. Your diet records, your My Health entries, your goals and your weight are never shown, and we never post anything on your behalf. Which groups you belong to is not shown to anyone — but a post you write in a group is visible to everyone in it, so posting in a group about a health condition tells the other members you are in it.

Checking posts. Before a post or reply appears, its text is sent to Anthropic, PBC — the company that provides the AI — to check it against our community rules. Anthropic does not train its models on it and deletes it within 30 days.

Reports. If you report something, we keep the report and the reported item for 90 days so we can review it and spot repeat problems. Posts blocked before they ever appeared are kept 30 days.

Leaving. Deleting your account deletes your posts, replies, group memberships, friendships, blocks and the reports you made.

8. YOUR CHOICE ABOUT AI

Help, Coach and AI SmartScan each ask before anything is sent. If you choose Not Now, nothing is sent, and the rest of the app works as usual. You can still reach us with "Send to the Gourmetmiles team," which does not use AI.

You can stop Coach at any time in Settings, under "Stop Coach from Reading My Diet Records."

My Community works differently: every post is checked against our rules before it appears (section 7), so that check is part of posting rather than a separate choice.

To withdraw any other permission you gave earlier, email support@gourmetmiles.com.

9. WHO WE SHARE INFORMATION WITH

We share information only with companies that help us run the Services, under their own obligations to protect it, and only as far as they need it for that purpose:

  • Amazon Web Services, for hosting our servers and database in the United States
  • Google, through Firebase, for Google sign-in and crash reporting
  • Google, for AI SmartScan — the one meal photo you take is sent to Google's AI to identify the food, as described in section 2
  • Google, for the software on Android that reads barcodes and ingredient labels. It works on your phone and sends us nothing from your camera, but it reports its own technical information to Google, as described in section 2
  • Apple, for Sign in with Apple, for speech recognition on iPhone when you use voice logging, and, if you turn it on, Apple Health on your phone
  • Google, or your phone's maker, for speech recognition on Android when you use voice logging, as described in section 2
  • Anthropic, for writing Help and Coach answers and for checking My Community posts, as described in sections 5, 6 and 7
  • FatSecret and the USDA FoodData Central database, for nutrition, barcode and ingredient information. We send them the food names and barcodes you look up
  • Open Food Facts, a nonprofit food database, for product ingredients, allergens and better-rated alternatives. We send it the barcodes you scan, the product's category, and the country your phone is set to — never your account, your name or anything else about you
  • Our email provider, which sends verification codes and delivers messages to our support inbox

Your location is not shared with any other company. The restaurant search runs on our own servers.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect the rights, safety or property of our users or others, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of our business, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.

We do not sell personal information, we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not give it to data brokers.

When you share your records with someone

On our website you can give another person — a dietitian, a family member, anyone you choose — read-only access to some of your records. Nothing is shared unless you send an invite, and each invite is separate: you choose the person, you choose what they can see, and you choose how long it lasts.

What we send them is what you ticked. If you allow downloads, they can save a copy; a saved copy stays with them, and ending their access does not delete it.

We keep a record of each invite — who you invited, what you chose to share, when, and when it ends — and a log of every time they view or download, which you can see. You can end anyone's access at any time.

We never share your records with a health professional, insurer or employer, or with anyone else, unless you invite that person yourself.

10. APPLE HEALTH AND HEALTH CONNECT

If you turn on Apple Health on iPhone, the app writes the meals you log, and the water and weight you type in, into Apple Health on your phone.

With your permission it also reads, from Apple Health: your weight, sleep, workouts, steps, calories burned, exercise minutes, blood pressure, blood glucose and resting heart rate. These are shown in My Health and Exercise, and calories burned can count towards your daily calorie goal if you turn that on.

What the app reads from Apple Health stays on your phone. We never receive it, it is never saved to your account, and it is never sent to any AI. Only what you type into My Health yourself is saved to your account (section 2).

On Android, Health Connect works in the same way, with the same types.

You can turn this off at any time in the app, or in Apple Health's or Health Connect's own settings, and you can allow or refuse each type separately.

11. HOW WE PROTECT INFORMATION

Information travels between the app and our servers over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and it is encrypted when stored. Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes. Our systems are reachable only by our own servers and by people who need access to run the service, and every such access is logged.

No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed without permission. If we learn of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.

You can help by using a password you do not use anywhere else, and by telling us at support@gourmetmiles.com if you think someone has accessed your account.

12. WHO AT GOURMETMILES CAN SEE YOUR INFORMATION

Gourmetmiles is run by one person, its founder. To answer your support messages, investigate a problem you report, and review anything reported in My Community, he can see your account through an internal admin tool — including your diet records and your My Health entries.

Access is limited to running the service and helping you. It is never used for advertising, never sold, and never shared. Sign-in to that tool needs a security key or authenticator app, and every record opened and every export is logged with who, what and when. Your password is never visible to anyone, including him.

13. HOW LONG WE KEEP INFORMATION

  • Account, profile, diet records, My Health entries and your Macroscale pairing details: while your account is open. When you delete your account, we remove them from our active systems within 30 days. Copies in routine backups roll off within 7 days.
  • Coach questions and answers, Help questions and answers, and the food lists from AI SmartScan: until you delete your account.
  • Connected device readings: not kept. They are shown when you open My Health and are not saved to your account.
  • Help and Coach usage records: up to 12 months.
  • Support emails: up to 24 months, or longer if needed to resolve an issue.
  • Server and crash logs: up to 90 days.
  • AI SmartScan photos: not kept. Location: not kept.
  • My Community: removed posts and reports, 90 days. Posts blocked before publishing, 30 days. Everything you posted is deleted with your account.

We may keep some information longer where the law requires it, or where we need it to resolve a dispute. Manual database snapshots, which we take before significant changes, persist until we delete them.

14. YOUR CHOICES AND RIGHTS

You can see and change most of your information in the app, and you can delete your account under Settings.

You can also ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, give you a copy of it, correct it, or delete it. Email support@gourmetmiles.com. We will need to confirm the request comes from you.

We respond within 45 days, and we do not treat you differently for making a request. If we decline a request, you may appeal by replying to our decision, and we will answer within 45 days.

Some U.S. states give their residents these rights by law. We offer them to everyone who uses the app, wherever you live.

Notifications can be turned off in the app or in your phone's settings.

15. CHILDREN

The Services are for people 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us at support@gourmetmiles.com and we will delete it.

16. WHERE INFORMATION IS KEPT

We store and process information in the United States. If you use the Services from elsewhere, your information will be transferred to the United States.

17. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

If we make a significant change, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when this policy last changed.

18. CONTACT US

19. IF YOU ARE IN THE UK, THE EU, THE EEA OR SWITZERLAND

This section applies to you if you use the Services from the United Kingdom, the European Union, the European Economic Area or Switzerland. It adds to the rest of this policy.

Who is responsible. Gourmetmiles Inc., Austin, Texas, United States, support@gourmetmiles.com, is the controller of your personal information.

Why we may use your information.

  • To create and run your account, connect your Macroscale and provide the features you ask for: because it is necessary to provide the Services to you.
  • Your health information, and diet groups that reveal your religion: only with your explicit consent, which we ask for in the app before any of it is saved. The categories are listed on that screen and in sections 2 and 3.
  • Coach, Help and AI SmartScan: only with your consent, asked separately for each.
  • Keeping the Services secure, preventing misuse, and finding and fixing faults, including crash reports: our legitimate interest in running a safe, working service. You can object to this.
  • Meeting legal obligations, such as answering lawful requests and notifying security incidents: because the law requires it.

Withdrawing consent. You can withdraw your health-data consent at any time in Settings › Privacy › Health data consent, and your AI consents as described in section 8. Withdrawing doesn't affect what we did before. When you withdraw your health-data consent, we stop collecting your health information and delete what we hold 30 days later, unless you agree again before then.

Where your information goes. We are based in the United States, and the app sends your information directly to our servers there. The service providers in section 9 also process it in the United States. The law there may not protect your information in the same way as the law where you live.

Your rights. You can ask us to give you access to your information, give you a copy in a common format, correct it, delete it, or restrict how we use it, and you can object to uses based on our legitimate interests. Email support@gourmetmiles.com. We will answer within one month, or tell you within that month if we need up to two more months for a complex request.

Complaints. You can complain to a data protection authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk); in the EU or EEA, the authority where you live (listed at edpb.europa.eu); in Switzerland, the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (edoeb.admin.ch). We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Decisions made by computers. We do not make decisions about you based only on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects. Coach's suggestions are suggestions for you to review.

What you need to give us. We need your email address to run your account. Your health information is optional, but without it the app cannot track your diet.
